The 84 Series coupling is a cartridge mount coupling used primarily for subsea tree control systems. Testing has shown that up to 500 connect/disconnect cycles can be performed without damage to the metal seal. The highly reliable 84 Series coupling has been extensively tested, with thousands currently in use today.

  • Patent 5,645,106
  • The sealing is performed by a metal primary seal and a redundant non-metallic secondary seal
  • High working pressure
  • Connect/disconnect under full working pressure permitted
  • 6mm, 8mm and 12mm bore sizes available
  • Components stamped with a truncated part number (Ident. number) for easy identification

The table below identifies 84 Series couplings for existing applications using the old style coupling requiring tighter tolerance levels.

  • Max. axial tolerance: +/- 0.012" (.30mm)
  • Max. radial tolerance" +/- 0.01" (.25mm)

A table for the newer version of the 84 Series couplings which offers greater tolerance levels follows the table below.

84 Series, 6mm bore, working pressure 12,500psi, Cv 0.55 (Old Style)
Part number Ident. number Component location Cavity dimension Features
84-006-0-XX001-00-0-P000 39144 top side (female) 1-1/4" - 12UN check valve
84-006-0-XX001-00-0-00-Z01 39145 top side (female) 1-1/2" - 12UN check valve, oversize thread *
84-006-0-XX001-AAAS-Z12 52975 top side (female) 1-1/4" - 12UN check valve, deepwater
84-006-2-XX002-AAAB-Z06 39478 bottom side (male) 1-1/4" - 12UN check valve
84-006-2-XX003-00-0-P000-VE 39141 bottom side (male) 1-1/4" - 12UN venting

*In the event rethreading of the female mounting cavity is required, increasing the thread to 1-1/2" 12UN allows use of this oversize thread component. This female component mates with either 6mm male component.

The table below identifies the new version of the 84 Series couplings, which allows a greater tolerance for misalignment than the old style. This table should be used for part identification and technical data when designing a new project, incorporating the 84 Series couplings.

  • Max. axial misalignment: +/- 0.012" (.30mm)
  • Max. radial misalignment: +/- 0.016" (.40mm)
84 Series, 6mm bore, working pressure 12,500psi, Cv 0.55 (New Style)
Part number Ident. number Component location Cavity dimension Features
84-006-0-XX001-AAAX-Z15 62373 top side (female) 1-1/4" - 12UN check valve
84-006-2-XX002-AAAY-Y16 62374 bottom side (male) 1-1/4" - 12UN check valve

Design notes:

  • The "old" female components will NOT mate with "new" male components.
  • It is permitted to mate "old" male components with "new" female components, but the tolerance levels will be those of the less tolerant old style.
  • To achieve the improved tolerance levels, both "new" male and "new" female components must be used.
